Bayang Troupe is a team of passionate arts practitioners with more than 10 years of experiences whose collective talents create an atmosphere for collaboration and progressive training for our youths.
Bayang Troupe is a professional drama workshop and performing group / company that is founded with a mission to train, guide and entertain the youths and the general public with the use and creation of puppetry and its arts form.
There is certainly more to drama than just performing. And we specialize in puppetry to bring knowledge to educate and entertain in creative ways.
The most rewarding aspects of drama is to see students nurture and get creative in their self-discoveries, helping them come into a greater artistic awareness
It is a wonderful tool for self-actualization and character development. So many life skills may be acquired in the process like discipline and confidence.
It motivates us to continue to unleash, develop, mentor, inspire, transform and empower the young through drama.
Bayang Troupe offers quality drama education for schools and the community. We are flexible in developing our drama programmes and we customize according to the school’s objectives and student‘s learning, be it in puppetry or in other drama art forms.
Not only for children, Bayang Troupe provides programmes, workshops and even performances, both locally and overseas, in English and Malay for different people from different walks of life. Students from Pre-schools, Primary, Secondary and even Tertiary will enjoy our programmes, workshops and performances. Even people from the corporate world and the general public will enjoy them.

PAST PRODUCTIONS
BENGKEL MIME THEATRE
Bayang Troupe brought in their first production in January 2015. They invited Bengkel Mime Theatre from Yogjakarta to do a mime-related performance. It was a magnificent performance.
“Bengkel Mime Theatre (BMT) is a visual theatre troupe from Yogyakarta, Indonesia that uses pantomime as the basis of their performances. BMT takes pantomime to approach other forms of art outside pantomime such as dance, theatre, literature, modern arts and film.
Bengkel Pantomime Yogyakarta was officially founded in may 2004, after three years of pioneering by Andy Sri Wahyudi (Andy SW), Sri Dwianto (Inyong) and Asita. Ficky Tri Sanjaya joined them in 2005 as a constant member.
In 2007 Bengkel Pantomime Yogyakarta was renamed Bengkel Mime Theatre after they acknowledged that they made visual theatre far beyond pantomime.
Hope to have them back again!

BAYANG DARI SEBERANG
BAYANG TROUPE brought in their second production and introduced - BAYANG DARI SEBERANG which was staged in October 2015 where we invited AMB (Anak Muda Bicara Theatre) to stage a performance called Kalimasada.
Kalimasada tells the story the traditional Javanese puppetry world heroes, who are seeking the scripture, Kalimasada that is believed to have disappeared. According to legend, this scripture will fulfill all dreams and end all catastrophes. During the search for this magical treasure, the heroes found what their hearts have been seeking, from revenge to love. Will they find the scripture in the end? Who will keep it? Kalimasada will see puppets come to life and witness the pop-up theatre, the first of its kind for theater in Asia. This piece was presented in Bahasa Indonesia and accompanied by surtitles.
Formed in 2009 by Abhimanyu Prasastia Perdana, Ikhwanus Sada and Ita Lufiana, Anak Muda Bicara Theatre (AMB) attempts to explore and experiment forms of acting and performing through strong artistic and aesthetical art forms. They have been active in the performing arts industry in Yogyakarta as well as other states in Indonesia. Their piece, Kalimasada was an international premiere.

THE BAYANG SERIES: An Online Performance
During Covid, we have produced and staged an online performance called the Bayang Series. It is a series of 2 performances staged via ZOOM on 2 separate dates.
It is a shadow performance by Bayang Troupe in collaboration with the National Arts Council.

LIVE SCHOOL PERFORMANCES
Besides theatrical productions, we also do school performances and productions.
We will either perform or train the students in puppetry / shadow puppetry in order for them to put up a performance in school / in public.
